Pregnancy Portraits
The relationship between a mother and her unborn baby is one of life's greatest treasures. Years from now, how will you remember this moment? Will you only remember the feelings of joy, anticipation, excitement, love and tenderness? Or will regret be part of those memories? The most common thing I here from mothers that look at our pregnancy portrait displays is how much they wish they had done something like that. Often they say that at the time they didn't think they really wanted portraits of themselves while they were pregnant, but afterwords they realized how big their mistake was in missing that opportunity. Sometimes they had their husband or a friend take a snapshot or two, and they are glad they have those, but now they would give anything to have an artistic creative portrait with which to remember that special time.
Many Bozeman (and Belgrade, Livingston, etc.) mothers have come to Robin Hickman Photography for elegant, beautiful, timeless portraits that celebrate pregnancy. After all, we are Bozeman's resident baby experts, so naturally mothers expect us to be the pregnancy portrait experts as well!
Well, I have to admit, it was not easy at first! I quickly discovered that there are unique challenges in creating pregnancy portraits. Many of the traditional poses that portrait photographers learn and use from early in our training, don't work well with pregnancy portraits. There are of course some basic poses that work well, but creating the kind of exceptional portraits that people have come to expect from us took a llittle more work. Add to that the concerns of pregnant moms. Most mothers are adjusting to dramatic changes in their bodies at this time and are not entirely comfortable with how they look. Extra weight is the most is the biggest one by far. A pregnant belly is widely considered beautiful, but no woman wants to see extra weight in places like her face and arms. Unfortunately, that seems to be part of the whole experience.
That's when I knew I had to work to become the leading expert in pregnancy portraits in Bozeman, just like I have in the baby portrait field.
As soon as pregnant women started asking me to create these special portraits, I realized what a huge responsibility it is. This is not a once on a lifetime opportunity, it is a once inTWO lifetimes opportunity. You may be pregnant again, but you will never be pregnant again WITH THIS CHILD. So I went to work with a passion, modifying posing and lighting techniques from other types of portraits (one of my favorite poses is created from a common bridal portrait pose), creating new poses and lighting techniques, and getting lots and lots of input and ideas from my clients, both those how were pregnant and those who had children. From my clients I got ideas for unique poses like children placing placing brightly colored handprints on their mother's pregnant tummy, or listening intently with am antique stethoscope. I got ideas from my clients for fun, playful portraits like the father measuring Mommy's belly. (Some moms think that is fun, others might not! That's why we customize every session exactly for you.) Working closely with my clients I have developed (and continue to develop) highly artistic and creative, unique pregnancy portrait techniques. I owe a great deal of the my success in this field to these clients that have helped me create my pregnancy portrait style.
The real beneficiaries of this process is the mothers to be like you that have concerns about how their pregnancy portraits might turn out, (which is nearly all of them.) Unless you are the extreme exception, you are naturally worried about how you can look your very best in your portrait at a time when you might not feel like you look your very best in real life. You could very well be one of those mothers that look at the beautiful portraits in my galleries and love them, but not believe that is possible for you to look so amazing in a pregnacy portrait. If that is true, then I respectfully, but with all my heart, say, you are mistaken! I passionately believe that I can create beautiful, artistic, flattering, even glamorous portraits of any expecting mother. I promise that I can do that for you. In fact, I ABSOLUTELY GUARANTEE you will look better than you dreamed you could look in your portraits or I will gladly refund every penny! I have had such amazing results using these specialized portrait techniques that I am completely confident that you will be thrilled with the results! My clients tell me that all the time!
